Spring 2024 Events

“To what extent do the ‘conditions of theoretical practice’ pass through [us], as the living site of a significant intervention?”- Hortense Spillers

Over the course of the Spring 2024 semester, the Department of African American Studies, from students to faculty and staff, has organized programs that have been engaging, informative, and timely. These programs have called into question what the role of the scholar is, invited us to think critically about figures, land and theory, and fostered a sense of community and celebration within the department.

Documented here are photos collecting moments across the following:

Gathering at the Threshold: Situating Our Theories and Praxes as Tools for the Contemporary Mo(ve)ment

Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Research Presentations

Say Her Name: The Radical Politics of Coretta Scott King

Eclipse/Undergrad Open House
